Toyota’s basketball-playing robot may be making its debut on an NBA team since it hardly ever misses a free throw or a three-pointer. Though, the bot can’t dribble or slam dunk, so it may not come in all that handy on the court.
The robot has the poise of a real basketball player at six-foot, 10-inches, and made five out of its eight three-point shots in a demonstration in Tokyo.
Toyota Motor Corp. has dubbed the robot Cue 3, since it computes the basket as a three-dimensional image using sensors on its torso, and adjusts the motors inside the arms and knees to get the precise angles and propulsion for a successful basket.
Originally in 2017, Toyota designed a version of the robot to only make free throws. Maybe soon Cue 3 will be able to play on the court as a basketball player, dribbling and all.
