Dallas-based Orion Fans, a division of Knight Electronics, has developed a thermally-controlled series of AC fans designed for electric vehicle (EV) charging systems. The smart AC axial fans feature a ball-bearing design that can deliver airflows up to 100 CFM with significantly reduced noise levels. The smart AC fans for electric vehicle charging systems are available in either 120V or 230V. Other AC fans are available in a wide range of sizes and voltages with a variety of options.
The thermally-controlled AC fans provide superior energy savings because the fans only operate at a speed necessary to cool the EV charging system, then automatically slow when an optimal temperature is reached. The incorporation of AC smart fans within the charging system combats the problem of device failure caused by over-temperature conditions by maintaining a steady, low temperature within the charging system that enhances the life of its components. Chargers that utilize grid buffering also have storage batteries on site that typically require some kind of forced cooling. The fans’ high airflow helps prevent premature failures of the system components within the charging systems.

Thermal management solutions from Orion Fans can include special fan sizes and voltages, with the incorporation of heat sinks if needed.
