Said to draw <1/10 of the power of a typical PC being used as a home server, Marvell Semiconductor’s SheevaPlug development kit is small enough to plug directly into a wall socket. The platform uses a Kirkwood embedded processor based on an embedded 1.2-GHz Sheeva CPU equipped with 512-MB Flash and 512-MB DRAM. Connection to the home network is via Gigabit Ethernet, and peripherals can be connected using USB 2.0. The Plug Computer supports multiple standard Linux 2.6 kernel distributions. Pricing is $99 through www.marvell.com.
