Targeting the space communications market, Escape Communications’ EGM-2 multi-Gigabit demodulator supports arbitrary data rates between 1 Mbps and 3 Gbps. The device uses a multi-mode, multi-rate architecture to enable programmable symbol rates from 1 Msym/s to 600 Msym/s and programmable modulation modes including BPSK, (O)QPSK, 8-PSK, 16-APSK, and 32-APSK. The unit presents FPGA-based signal processing functions including coherent demodulation with configurable ratematched filter; 33-tap fractional-spaced adaptive equalization, and digital tuner and filter to extract signal-of-interest from input spectrum. The FIFO-based back-end allows for modification with soft- and hard-decision outputs available, and the on-board RF input VGA enables a 30-dB input power range. The demod offers a MIL-STD-1553 interface, 110/220-VAC power, and a GUI accessed via front panel USB to provide control and status information, as well as diagnostics and self-test capabilities.
