Based on High Aspect Ratio Micro-ElectroMechanical Systems (HARMEMS), Freescale Semiconductor’s MMA6222EG, MMA6255EG, and MMA621010EG inertial sensors perform in automotive airbag systems. The units offer an XY-axis of sensitivity, 10-bit digital data output, full-scale range per axis of ±20 g, ±50 g or ±100 g, ±4% sensitivity accuracy at 25°C, and operation from a 3.3-V or 5-V supply voltage in a temperature range from -40°C to 105°C. The devices include integrated signal conditioning low-pass filters, an SPI-compatible serial interface, bi-directional internal self-test, on-chip temperature sensor and voltage regulator, and support for signed or unsigned output data. The 20-pin SOIC-packaged components have capture/hold input for system-wide synchronization support, as well as ratiometric analog voltage output.
