STMicroelectronics' latest digital power amplifier, the STA510F, can drive up to 100W per channel of audio into stereo 8-ohm loads. The device will also drive 4 x 50W into 4 ohms, or up to 200W in a mono configuration, using STM's proprietary full flexible amplification method of digital modulation. However, it still accepts signals from other drivers using any PWM modulation scheme such as ternary, phase shift, or binary. Other features are integrated circuitry for the turn-off sequence of logic- and power-stage power supplies, no requirement for external turn-off circuitry, and chip integration of the DMOS power and bipolar / CMOS structures. The STA510F is available now in a PSO36 package at $3.00 for 100,000 units.
