Ramtron International Corp. added a 4 Kb, 5V F-RAM memory device to its Grade 1 AEC-Q100-qualified automotive product line. The FM25040A-GA's serial peripheral interface (SPI) reads and writes at bus speeds up to 14 MHz and is specified to operate at 125°C and is guaranteed to retain data for 9,000 hours at that temperature. F-RAM enables rapid and frequent writes to prevent data loss and guarantee data integrity in noisy automotive environments; this particular version is a direct hardware replacement for equivalent EEPROMs. It has a 10uA standby current, includes a write protection scheme, and is available in a RoHS-compliant 8-pin SOIC package. It is suitable for powertrain systems.
