Intended for applications such as solid-state lighting where the output is a regulated current instead of a regulated voltage, the TPS40211 non-synchronous boost controller can drive multiple 1W to 5W high-brightness LEDs in series when the input voltage is less than the voltage required. Using a fixed-frequency current-mode control for improved transient response and simplified loop compensation, the device includes features such as programmable closed soft-start, overcurrent protection with automatic retry, and a programmable oscillator frequency. Offered in a 10-pin PowerPAD or SON package, the solid-state lighting driver (SSLD) IC can be used for boost, flyback, SEPIC and various LED driver topologies. The suggested price is $1.40 in 100 unit quantities.
