The latest analysis of U.S. wireless networks by testing firm RootMetrics once again saw Verizon take top honors, with AT&T trailing closely behind.

Verizon touted the 10th consecutive RootMetrics report in which it led the other major U.S. carriers in overall performance. The report also gave Verizon the highest score outright in four of its testing categories.

The carrier tied with AT&T for the lead in the analysis of texting performance, while AT&T finished just behind Verizon both overall and in the remaining categories.

T-Mobile ranked third among major carriers in the latest study and finished third in the reliability, speed and data categories. RootMetrics analysts noted that T-Mobile, as usual, performed better in metropolitan markets than in broader geographical areas.

Sprint, meanwhile, finished ahead of T-Mobile in mobile calling and texting but brought up the rear in the additional segments and overall.

RootMetrics said the latest report, which used store-bought, off-the-shelf smartphones, included nearly 4 million tests across 227,689 driving miles and more than 8,000 indoor locations.
