C Spire on Monday announced the debut of fixed wireless broadband service in more than 40 markets in its native Mississippi.
The nation’s sixth-largest wireless carrier said that more than 57,000 households across 22 communities in central and northern Mississippi can now order fiber-based fixed broadband internet access, with connection speeds of up to 100 Mbps, for $60 per month. C Spire wireless customers can receive the service for $50 per month.
The company added that more than 35,000 businesses in the state can order fixed wireless service for $70 monthly. C Spire originally rolled out fixed wireless service in eight markets in September and eventually plans to offer the broadband to more than 250,000 residential customers and small businesses in Mississippi.
“As a Mississippi-based technology company, we are uniquely positioned to ensure that our state is not left behind in the technology revolution and the new digital economy,” C Spire President Stephen Bye said in a statement. “The mass expansion of broadband Internet is a key part of the C Spire Tech Movement.”
C Spire also touted the installation of more than 8,000 miles of fiber-optic infrastructure in Mississippi and more wireless spectrum in the state than any other carrier. The company’s pre-5G tests over the past 18 months, meanwhile, achieved gigabit speeds.
“We are ushering in a new era of speed and availability for broadband internet access,” Bye said.
