WOW! Internet, Cable & Phone says it plans to deploy 1 Gbps internet service to more than 95 percent of the company’s existing footprint early next year.
The rollout will be completed by February 2018, at which time all residential and business customers will have access to broadband speeds of up to 1 Gbps.
“Our customers want the fastest internet speeds available so they can stream, chat, game, browse, and enjoy internet-connected devices without interruption,” WOW! CEO Steven Cochran says in a statement. “WOW!’s previous network investments have enabled us to provide 1 Gig services through existing coax plants with minimal capital expenditure. We are taking advantage of the opportunity to future-proof our entire network to power the data-hungry devices and connected gadgets our customers love.”
WOW! previously deployed its 1 gigabit internet service in select markets, including Ohio, Michigan, and Alabama at the end of June.
“Having a reliable, fast broadband network is not only great for our customers, but for the community as a whole,” Cochran adds. “Businesses, hospitals, manufacturing, institutions of higher education, and even telecommuters are increasingly choosing cities, towns, and communities that can offer broadband networks and internet connectivity that can grow along with their needs.”
The company says upgrading will be simple for existing customers, and only requires a new modem in markets that offer coax-based 1 Gbps internet speeds.
