Recognizing the need for financial aid among college students, Jo Ann and William “Jerry” Caughlin have endowed a scholarship to assist electrical engineering undergraduates at Texas A&M University.
“My wife and I know from experience what a little financial help can mean to a student,” Caughlin said. “We have enjoyed helping in a small way by giving financial aid to these students.”
The Jo Ann and William G. Caughlin ’49 Scholarship in Electrical Engineering will provide one or more scholarships to undergraduate students. Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement and financial need.
The Caughlins are longtime supporters of Texas A&M University and the Dwight Look College of Engineering. Their first endowment was made in 1999 in memory of Jerry’s father, William L. Caughlin. The senior Caughlin worked in the Department of Electrical Engineering before retiring in the 1970s.
“The Caughlins’ continued support of Look College and Texas A&M is a testament of the commitment they have made to help students who need financial assistance,” said Erin Gage, assistant director of development.
Jerry graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1949. He and Jo Ann currently reside in College Station, Texas. They have two sons, both graduates of Texas A&M.
