LOS ANGELES, Nov. 28 (Kyodo) — Toyota Motor Corp. took the wraps off the all-new RAV4 at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday, in the hope of increasing sales in the booming sports utility vehicle segment of the North American market.
Toyota, which sold as many as 130,000 units of the RAV4 during 2011, said it is keen on cashing in on the resurgent U.S. auto market with the new SUV featuring a 10 percent improvement in highway-mode gas mileage and better safety equipment.
General Motors Co. showed off to the press its Chevrolet Spark electric vehicle that runs only on an electric motor, unlike the Chevrolet Volt hybrid propelled by both a motor and gasoline engine. The Chevrolet Spark will roll into showrooms possibly next summer.
Honda Motor Co. unveiled the Acura RLX sedan, the top-of-the-line model of its Acura luxury brand. The carmaker said the new model has more interior space and higher driving performance.
