Facebook executive Katie Mitic is joining eBay Inc.'s board of directors, the online auction company said Thursday.

The announcement brings eBay's board to 12 members, 10 whom are independent.

Mitic currently leads Facebook's platform and mobile marketing efforts.

"Katie has great experience in building innovative global platforms, products and services. Her expertise will be a tremendous asset for eBay as we focus on enabling the future of commerce and changing how consumers shop and pay with our global platforms," eBay President and CEO John Donahoe said in a statement.

Mitic, whose eBay board post takes effect immediately, previously worked at Palm and Yahoo Inc.

Earlier this month, eBay announced that it hired Devin Wenig, formerly CEO of Thomson Reuters Markets, as president of its global eBay Marketplaces business unit.

Shares of eBay, based in San Jose, Calif., fell 69 cents, or 2.2 percent, to $30.94 in afternoon trading. The stock has traded in a 52-week range of $23.93 to $35.35.
