Global front projector shipments in 2010 are expected to reach 7.3 million units, and to 8.1 million units in 2011, according to data from PMA. TI’s DLP chips will account for 50% of the global projector market in 2010, which will be about 3.65 million units in shipments, PMA data showed.
With TI’s DLP 3D Ready chip, 3D images can be displayed by a single projector, TI noted, adding that in traditional 3D projection systems, two projectors are required to display a 3D image.
Clients of TI’s DLP 3D Ready chips includes BenQ, InFocus, LightSpeed, Mitsubishi, Optoma, Sharp, ViewSonic, Projectiondesign and Christine Digital, which have all introduced 3D ready projectors in the market, market sources noted.
TI is also eyeing the education market for 3D projectors and is cooperating with Discovery Education, Safari Montage, Eon Reality and NeoTech for content development, TI said.
DLP chips were in short supply previously, but TI indicated that the supply of DLP chips has returned to normal with the company continuing to expand its capacity in 2010.
