Immersion Corp., a company that develops touch-screen technology, said Friday that David Sugishita has been elected to its board to succeed retiring director Rob Van Naarden.
Sugishita is chairman of Atmel Corp., where he also heads the audit and corporate governance committees. Atmel makes microcontrollers, industrial controls, flash memory, radio frequency components and other electronics parts. He also is a director and chairman of the audit committee for voice-processing equipment maker Ditech Networks, Immersion said.
Sugishita also has been a chief financial officer or corporate controller at several companies including chip testing and development software maker Synopsys Inc., and chip designer Actel Corp.
"We believe that David's distinguished career in successful technology companies, his extensive board expertise and strong background in licensing, finance and financial controls will be an asset to the board," Immersion CEO and director Victor Viegas said in the statement.
Sugishita is Immersion's fifth independent board member.
Immersion shares fell 7 cents to $5.49 in afternoon trading.
