Hart Stores Inc. (HIS:TSX) said Thursday it earned $757,000 in its latest quarter compared with a loss in the same period a year earlier.
The department store company said the profit amounted to six cents per share for the quarter ended Jan 30 compared with a loss of eight cents per share a year earlier.
Sales in what was the company's fourth quarter totalled $53.6 million, down from $56.8 million, while comparable same-store sales were down by 3.6 per cent.
For its full financial year, Hart Stores reported a profit of $1.6 million or 12 cents per share on $179.5 million in sales. That compared with a profit of $1.2 million or nine cents per share on $175.1 million in sales.
Hart Stores has a network of 90 department stores under the Hart, Bargain Giant and Geant des Aubaines banners in Eastern Canada.
