L-1 Identity Solutions said Wednesday that it has landed a contract worth $6.5 million with the Connecticut Department of Social Services.
The company will provide a new security system intended to cut down on fraud through the use of automated biometric identification. That includes electronic fingerprint matching and long-lasting benefit cards.
The six-year contract, awarded during the final quarter of 2009, begins in 2010.
Connecticut is one of only a few states to use electronic fingerprint matching and manual photo comparisons to ensure that people who sign up for benefits are not already receiving them under a different name.
L-1 will provide an upgrade to the state's current fingerprint matching software, electronic signature pads, computer hardware and other equipment.
Shares of L-1 Identity Solutions Inc. rose 18 cents, or 2 percent, to $9.44
