Tech management software provider CA Inc. said Wednesday that it's buying 3Tera Inc. as it further expands its reach into cloud computing services.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Privately held 3Tera sells cloud computing software, which lets companies operate and store their data on outside servers, lowering the cost of maintaining their own computer systems.

CA said 3Tera's AppLogic software simplifies and hastens the deployment of cloud computing using a user interface that's intuitive to operate.

The acquisition of 3Tera, based in Aliso Viejo, Calif., adds to CA's other investments in cloud computing and related services. In June, the company bought certain assets of Cassatt Corp., which makes cloud computing software. Three months later, CA bought NetQoS Inc., which makes network performance management software.

In January, the company purchased Oblicore, which provides cloud vendor management and measures cloud service quality.

Shares of CA, based in Islandia, N.Y., rose 44 cents, or 2 percent, to close at $22.56.
