Toshiba is looking to redefine the “all-in-one device” with its “Cell TV,” an HD-3D LED TV poised for release in 2010. The Japanese company announced this potential game-changer at CES today. With built-in 802.11 wireless connectivity, an integrated Blu-ray player, blazing fast speed, and a 1 Terabyte (TB) Hard Disk Drive, the Cell TV could transform home entertainment.
With processing power 143x greater than current models, the Cell TV doesn’t skimp on speed. It features 480 scenes per second (480 Hz)--4x that of comparable 1080p units. Under the hood, the Cell TV has 8 core processors, with each processor @ 3.2 GHz.
By now, you’ve undoubtedly heard that 2010 will be the year of 3D. The Cell TV includes 3D Tri Vector technology, which, if this is to be believed, allows for real-time 2D-to-3D conversion. This means you can watch old shows in 3D.
I’ll be keeping an eye on Toshiba’s “ultra premium” TV. With the right price, this could be the next big thing.
