EGT introduced the second platform in its line of Head End Micro (HEMi) edge video processor products. HEMi 2.0 enables operators to roll out their all-digital systems by converting local analog channels required for public, education and government (PEG) use or in multiple dwelling unit (MDU) buildings and closed communities.
The newest addition to the HEMi family, which EGT claims is unique in the cable industry, includes new features such as add/drop multiplexing, closed-captioning, IP output and remote management.
HEMi 2.0’s new features allow operators the ability to add, drop or replace channels while also giving them more flexibility in their edge system design,” said Chris Gordon, EGT senior director of product management.
The add/drop multiplexing in HEMi 2.0 lets the network operators choose to insert new channels or replace existing channels with community content. Closed-captioning allows for scrolling text. The IP output enables operators to use HEMi for remote channel backhaul, as well as enabling HEMi to be deployed in an all-IP headend environment. Operators will also be able to remotely monitor and manage the distributed units, EGT said.
