Driverless vehicles are set to start a new chapter in the age of mobility, and will have profound impacts on different industries—both directly and indirectly tied to the automotive sector. At first glance, some professions and fields of work that will inevitably be affected by vehicular autonomy might seem obvious—insurance, transportation services (like taxis and ride sharing), and auto manufacturers. It’s when we go beyond scratching the surface we find that the rise of self-driving vehicles is set to have a broader effect on the workforce than one might originally think.
Originally published in 2016, the infographic below (provided by Crowd Companies Inc.) made projections on this very topic. When putting the 32 months since graphic’s release into perspective, we find that—despite vehicular autonomy still being in its infancy and nowhere near ubiquitous—the chart was successful in determining some of the different industries that would be affected by these mobile innovations, along with specific ways of how each one would be differently impacted.
