Mayfield Robotics recently unveiled Kuri, a helpful, high-tech robot built to assist with family life.
A camera is located behind one of Kuri’s eyes, capturing videos and HD pictures. The camera system has livestream capabilities, which keeps a watchful eye on your house whenever you’re away. Capacitive touch sensors add a sense of humanity to this machine, allowing the robot to respond to human interactions in a realistic way. The entire face design simulates familiar human movements, such as blinking, smiling, looking up and down, and moving from side to side.
Four sensitive microphones enable Kuri to accurately react to voice commands, detect unusual sounds, and pinpoint the direction of the sound’s origin. Not only can this machine investigate mysterious noises, but it can relay programmed emotional states. Kuri’s current mood is conveyed through fluctuating lights located on the robot’s torso.
“Mapping sensors enable Kuri to navigate your house autonomously. A sensor array helps Kuri learn and remember where everything is located, and also stay away from cliffs and obstacles in his path,” according to Mayfield Robotics. “A set of small, yet powerful, electric motors help Kuri move effortlessly around your home. His wheels are big enough to handle a wide range of flooring and carpets – even thresholds.”
Located at the base of the design are two robust speakers. This means users can blast music, podcasts, or voice recordings with extreme clarity. The entire machine is powered by a strong processor in charge of mapping, entertainment options, and facial and speech recognition.
Kuri will be available for purchase later this year for around $700, so budget your finances accordingly. Watch the video below to better understand Kuri’s potential.
