With miniaturization often comes the challenge to produce the same amount of work as in large design, thus creating more power in a smaller envelope. Engineers should look at the different impact of dimension on motor performance criteria (efficiency, power, thermal dissipation, inertia, etc.).
Device miniaturization is integral to the design and development of a wide range of medical devices, including analytical test equipment, ventilators, and infusion pumps. Making devices smaller and lighter helps conserve valuable real estate in patient rooms, enabling equipment to be placed closer to the patient as well as allowing more space for medical professionals to work.
As the requirements for medical devices become more demanding, accessing new technologies and materials to miniaturize components is essential. Miniaturization of medical devices is dependent upon the reliability of their assembled components, which is crucial for proper functioning devices.

Although LED lighting is still in the early adoption phase, high brightness lighting class LED devices are currently used in a wide variety of different applications due to the many advantages they offer over traditional light sources such as incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent tubes. The development of ever more efficient LED devices is ongoing as device technology continues to be improved.
There are two advances (among many) that will lower healthcare costs in the future. The growing ubiquity of high speed connectivity will allow for remote telemetry and monitoring of patients. Advanced sensors will allow doctors to keep track of patients well being without them venturing to the doctor's office. If they do need to come in all the basic tests will be completed, reducing time to treatment.
Power sources in the future will be used and developed based upon economic, political, environmental and technological considerations. Changes will be dramatic but evolving over decades; the changes will be both in the sources of power and perhaps more so in the consequences of creating and using that power.
Medical device companies deploy technologies to address unmet clinical needs, and of course, to make a profit in so doing. In some cases, the cost of new generations of medical devices increases, sometimes substantially, but that’s actually not what’s important. We have to evaluate the total cost of healthcare. In some instances, a substantially more expensive medical device can actually reduce the overall cost of healthcare.

The cool product at the top of my list is the AR quadicopter (http://ardrone.parrot.com/parrot-ar-drone/usa/how-does-it-work) drone by Parrot. It is a small helicopter that is remotely controllable from an iphone, ipad or android-based device.
