Consisting of two 2-A power switches packaged in a 16-lead 5 x 4-mm DFN package, Linear Technology's LT3506 and LT3506A current-mode PWM step-down DC/DC converters are capable of delivering up to 1.6A of output current per channel.  With an input range from 3.6 to 25.0 V and an internal reference of 0.80 V, the LT3506 switches at 575 kHz while the LT3506A switches at 1.1 MHz with operating efficiencies of up to 88%. Each channel has independent shutdown and soft-start pins as well as independent power good indicators for power sequencing. The channels switch 180° out of phase with respect to the other, reducing input ripple and capacitance.  Internal cycle-by-cycle current limit provides protection against shorted outputs while soft-start eliminates input current surge during the start up.  The shutdown current is less than 30 µA and pricing starts at $2.95 each for 1,000-piece quantities.
