1um diameter holes Ideal for various cold micromachining needs, a family of air- cooled, picosecond lasers from RPMC provide up to 150μJ of pulse energy. The rugged, compact lasers combine the advantages of fiber-laser technology withthe high energies of solid-state diode-pumped free-space amplifiers.

The APL’s 1064nm laser platform allows them to be tailored to various power, pulse energy and repetition rates needed for a variety of industrial, scientific, and medical applications.  The IR is sufficient for most micromachining applications.

The APL-500-1064 is available with 5ps pulses and 25uJ of energy at 10 KHz with 0.5W of average power at 500kHz.  The APL-4000-1064 is available with <10ps pulses and 150uJ of energy at 10 KHz with 4W of average power at 500kHz.

bone ablationCustom versions are available at various wavelengths, pulse widths, pulse energy and power levels. Some 100ps units have been developed at fixed wavelengths between 3um and 6um. Harmonics are available at 532, 355, and in some cases 266nm.

Dungeons and Dragons Dice Gauntlet
Dungeons and Dragons Dice Gauntlet

The D&D bracer is a fairly quick, fun, nerdy LilyPad project. The final product is a wearable bracer with a display that will randomly generate numbers between 1 and 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20, or 100 in response to arm movement, so it can effectively replace all of the dice in your bag for a D&D session.

Sustainable?
Sustainable?

I'd like some genius to define sustainable. Could we count something that we can keep doing for 100 billion years - beyond the death of the Universe as we currently understand such things - as sustainable? How about a billion years?
