Field Oriented Control Algorithm for Sensorless Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

August 6, 2007 11:25 am | Microchip Technology Inc. | Comments

Microchip Technology is providing free source code for the sensorless field oriented control (FOC) of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs), which can operate on any of the company’s motor control dsPIC digital signal controllers (DSCs) -- including the DSCPIC33FJ12MC family of DSCs. The algorithm is free, and prices for the DSCPIC33FJ12MC family start at $1.99 each in 10,000-unit quantities.

Sixteen-bit MCU Family Offered In Smaller Sizes

August 6, 2007 11:19 am | Microchip Technology Inc. | Comments

Microchip Technology’s PIC24HJ12 family of 40 MIPS, 16-bit microcontrollers is offered in 18- and 28-pin packages as small as 6 mm × 6 mm for space-constrained applications. The family’s 16-bit MCU architecture was designed for engineers that need to migrate from 8-bit architectures. The company offers 92 sixteen-bit products in four compatible families to serve users for years, even as they scale to DSP-enabled applications.

Digital Signal Controllers for Motor Control

August 6, 2007 11:12 am | Microchip Technology Inc. | Comments

Microchip Technology introduced the dsPIC33FJ12MC family of motor control digital signal controllers (DSCs). These 40 MIPS DSCs provide a platform for advanced motor control algorithms such as field-oriented control (FOC), enabling desirable performance, and low noise plus power efficiency for motor control applications. The family is available in 20- and 28-pin packages as small as 6 mm ×6 mm.

Digital Signal Controllers for Smart Sensor Applications

August 6, 2007 10:55 am | Microchip Technology Inc. | Comments

Microchip Technology announced the dsPIC33FJ12GP family of digital signal controllers (DSCs), which are suited for a new class of smart sensor applications. With 40 MIPS performance in package sizes as small as 6 mm ×6 mm, the processor can be moved closer to the sensor -- eliminating lead noise and offloading this workload from a central processor -- thereby creating a smart sensor scenario. Using libraries and filter design tools, digital filters can replace analog filters to reduce noise.

Automatic Power Sliding Door and Lift Gate Force Sensor

August 6, 2007 10:12 am | Comments

Sensor Developments introduced the model 90335 force sensor designed to measure the maximum force prior to the automatic reversal of power sliding doors and automatic lift gates. This sensor helps suppliers monitor these closing forces to insure they keep below the FMVSS levels and prevent accidental occupant trapping or injury. The sensor is secured in place in the door path during automatic closure, and can be used in repeated cycling without operator support.
