IC family features 95% power conversion efficiency
To meet the growing worldwide demand for power hungry smart phones and tablet computers, Active-Semi today announced a new family of Power Bank IC solutions, the ACT2800 product family. The first two devices in this evolutionary product series are the ACT2801 and ACT2802. These first-of-a-kind single-chip solutions offer numerous benefits including the smallest solution footprint combined with high efficiency at low total system cost. Prior to general release, the ACT2800 family of products has experienced significant customer interest with more than 25 design wins.The ACT2800 family was architected to integrate the complete Power Bank functionality into one system-on-a-chip. Power Bank chipsets on the market today require multiple ICs, such as micro controller units (MCUs), to perform the charging and battery management functions in addition to several discrete components. The ACT2800 family reduces the system footprint and minimizes design complexity, while leaving room for larger batteries and reducing total system cost.
The ACT2801 device supports output current up to 1.5A while the ACT2802 supports output current up to 2.1A to reduce charging time whenusing larger batteries.
