AVX Corporation has introduced what is said to be the first 1206-size, 100-V MLCC capable of exhibiting capacitance of 4.7 µF and withstanding operating temperatures of up to 125°C. Designed for use in industrial power supply circuits, the new 1206, 100V MLCCs exhibit high voltage resistance, high capacitance, low ESR, ripple resistance, and an extended lifetime. Employing the company’s newly developed X7S dielectric material, which is asserted to reduce the average diameter of dielectric particles by approximately 20 percent and enhance the uniformity of its composition, the new MLCC also features a 30 percent smaller mounting surface than conventional 1210 size products, providing improved design flexibility over comparable products, such as aluminum electrolytic capacitors. This 100-V MLCC also exhibits considerable ripple-resistance in frequency bands extending to more than several dozen kHz. Consequently, it can limit heat generation and voltage fluctuations in power supply circuits.
