Sensors measure vibrations and displacements from up to more than 300 meters away
Polytec has expanded its product range of non-contact measurement laser vibrometers with a new generation of sensors designed for operation over large distances. The RSV-150 Remote Sensing Vibrometer will measure vibrations and displacements on nearly any surface, from up to more than 300 meters away using an eye-safe (subject to blink reflex) Class 2 laser. Measurements with sub-µm resolution are possible from 0 Hz to 25 kHz. The RSV-150 covers the range and therefore the applications of classical accelerometers.
This new laser technology is used to inspect structures such as road and railroad bridges, in the preventive maintenance and structural health monitoring of power units and facilities in industrial plants as well as in research and development.
The laser system comes into its own where data need to be obtained remotely without the use of expensive and cumbersome cabled systems. The temperature of the measuring point has no influence on the measurement. Thanks to this characteristic, the system has already proven its value in the troubleshooting of hot piping systems in chemical and power engineering plants. Measurements of vibrations in high voltage lines and transformers in operation can also be easily implemented from a safe distance.
