Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced a new SMT Power Metal Strip resistor in the 2010 case size that combines a high 2 W power rating with low resistance values down to 0.001 Ω and stable resistance tolerances to 0.5 percent. Its construction incorporates a solid metal nickel-chrome or manganese-copper alloy resistive element with low TCR (<20 PPM/°C). This results in a high-power resistor with an operating temperature range of - 65°C to + 170°C while maintaining the electrical characteristics of the Power Metal Strip construction. The new device allows for the design of high-power circuits featuring the smallest possible resistor for higher-performance end products. The resistor's high-temperature capability allows the use of the WSLP2010 in harsh high-temperature environments without sacrificing power rating or electrical performance. It will meet the requirements of AEC-Q200.

The resistor is appropriate for all types of current sensing and pulse applications, including switching and linear power supplies, instruments, and power amplifiers in automotive electronic controls such as engine, brushless DC motors, anti-lock brakes, and climate controls; industrial controls, including down-hole test/measurement equipment for oil/gas well drilling; inverter controls for HVAC systems; and DC/DC converters for servers, VRMs for laptops, and Li-Ion battery safety and management.

Like all Power Metal Strip resistors, the device features an all-welded construction that contributes to its superior electrical performance. A proprietary processing technique produces extremely low resistance values ranging from 0.001 Ω to 0.01 Ω, with tight tolerances of 0.5 percent and 1.0 percent. The WSLP2010 provides very low inductance of 0.5 ηH to 5 ηH and low thermal EMF (< 3 μV/°C). The device is lead (Pb)-free and RoHS-compliant.
