Wire-to-wire connector system serves junction applications

Tue, 05/15/2012 - 10:33am

AVX Corporation has developed a wire-to-wire (WTW) connector system for junction applications, which offers a simple and reusable method for connecting discrete wires and leaded components in electrical and electronics applications. This unique extension of the 9286 Series WTW connectors does not connect wires in the traditional 1:1 configuration; instead it connects numerous wires together electrically, creating a junction box.

A single power, ground or signal wire can be branched out to run multiple devices/units identically. Several WTW connectors available on the market only support large gauge wires, but the 9286 Series WTW connector supports 18-26AWG with up to 8 positions. The simple push button activation allows for stripped solid or stranded wires to be easily inserted and removed or replaced. The 9286 Series WTW connector is also reusable, a unique feature in the industry.

The 9286 Series connector also features the smallest profile in the industry and the shortest pitch at 4.00mm. The robust design can withstand harsh environments, offering a temperature range of -40ºC to +125ºC and an 8A current rating.

“The advanced functionality of the 9286 Series wire-to-wire connector enables it to operate as a junction box as well as providing broad mix-and-match wire gauge capabilities to maximize field serviceability,” said Tom Anderson, product manager for AVX.

Different wire gauges can be connected together within a single unit, and the BeCu contact system provides unparalleled reliability. The WTW connector is ideal for a number of portable commercial and industrial terminals, medical devices, solid state lighting fixtures, and industrial electronic modules and controls.

Pricing for the 9286 Series WTW connectors is set at competitive market levels with a lead time of eight weeks.
