LG Display Introduces 55-Inch Public Display Panel with World’s Narrowest Bezel

Seoul, Korea (October 18, 2011) – LG Display today announced that it has developed a 55-inch panel for public displays equipped with the world’s narrowest bezel.

The new public display panel comes with the narrowest bezel that creates a 5.3 mm gap (left/right: 3.4 mm, top/bottom: 1.9 mm) between individual panels when displayed alongside each other. This makes it possible to create a large 165-inch multi-screen public display capable of producing seamless, life-like images. In addition, the narrow bezel enables a more visible surface area, improving the viewing effect and visual cohesion most critical to a multi-screen display.

The product is accompanied by LG Display’s Full HD panel with 800 nit brightness. In turn, the panel delivers vibrant colors and sharp contrast, while ensuring multi-screen displays that are brighter and clearer compared to previous setups.

LG Display has developed more energy efficient technologies that can bring greater value to the environment issue. The new 55-inch public display panel uses Local Dimming Technology which is 40% lower power consumption than existing products.

“The utility of public display products have been expanding,” said Jun Joon, Vice President of Public Display Department at LG Display. “As a result, public display products have been solidifying their position as a key part of the overall display market, alongside TVs, monitors, and mobile devices. LG Display will leverage on its technological prowess to strengthen its global competitiveness in this booming sector.”

The new 55-inch public display panel will be unveiled publicly for the first time at Flat Panel Display (FPD) International 2011 in Yokohama, Japan from October 26 to 28. LG Display plans to install a 165-inch multi-screen display, consisting of nine display units in a 3x3 format.

Public display products are commonly installed in public areas and often used as digital advertisement billboards as well as external and internal wall decoration of buildings. According to DisplaySearch, a market research firm, annual sales of the public display sector is expected to increase from 1.6 million units in 2009 to over 9.5 million units in 2016, a six-fold increase.
