10-Degrees of Freedom IMU Aims to Simplify Designs for Unmanned Vehicle, First Responder Apps

Analog Devices released the ADIS16407 iSensor IMU (inertial measurement unit) which integrates a tri-axis gyroscope, tri-axis accelerometer, tri-axis magnetometer and a pressure sensor into a single package. Each sensor in the unit combines the company’s iMEMS technology and signal conditioning to optimize the IMU’s 10- DoF (degrees-of-freedom) dynamic performance. Every IMU is factory calibrated for sensitivity, bias, alignment, and temperature. As a result, each sensor has its own dynamic compensation formulas, maximizing accuracy of sensor measurements. Where no one single sensor provides the required precision, the solution involves merging multiple sensor types with a deep knowledge of the dynamics of the application environment. The ADIS16407 combines all necessary sensors in a single product with a simple interface, and full factory calibration, The IMU’s triaxial, digital iMEMS gyroscope features digital range scaling: ±75°/sec, ±150°/sec, ±300°/sec settings; the triaxial digital magnetometer is rated at ±2.5 gauss; and the digital pressure sensor is rated at 10 mbar to 1200 mbar. The module package size is 23 mm × 23 mm × 23 mm.
