Precision Technology, Inc. (PTI) today announced the availability of the PTI Flash Board, a new, low-cost development board and prototyping platform for product developers looking to optimize their embedded applications, including portable data terminals, medical patient monitors and human machine interface (HMI) display panels. Through extensive multimedia and wireless communication capabilities, the Flash Board allows designers to speed their time to market and reduce the cost of effective development of industrial, as well as, consumer devices. For more information, or to order, go to www.theflashboard.com.

Featuring the ARM Cortex-A8-based OMAP35x processor from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), PTI’s Flash Board comes fully loaded with a 5- or 7-inch touch screen display, a WLAN module, SD card with USB on-the-go (OTG) and production quality Windows Compact Embedded 6.0 BSP. The Flash Board includes TI’s WiLink (WL1271) 6.0 connectivity solution, which integrates WLAN 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR, and FM technologies on a single chip. The WiLink 6.0 solution provides a cost-efficient transition to production.

The system is perfectly suited for high-bandwidth needs of up to 100 mbps and development of power efficient portable solutions. In addition, the four-wire resistive touch screen bonded with the LCD allows for easy GUI navigation. The board’s passive-resistive touch screen provides the most power efficient solution for embedded low- power applications.

“The co-development of this new Flash Board reiterates PTI and TI’s passionate efforts to help OEMs develop production-ready, robust embedded display products. We are thrilled to have TI’s OMAP35x processor and WiLink 6.0 connectivity solution working together on this Flash Board to drive optimized, simplified development experiences for customers and partners across various markets,” said Ram Sathappan, ARM end equipments manager, TI.

Tim Poulin, Project Manager of the PTI Flash Board says, “Our customers are excited about this new Flash Board, because it will help them save money and shave eight to nine months off of development times of hand-held, embedded devices.”
