Power Inductors Achieve Desirable DC Bias
Taiyo Yuden’s NRS5020 (5.0 mm x 5.0 mm, with a maximum height of 2.0 mm) and the NR5040 (5.0 mm x 5.0 mm, with a maximum height of 4.0 mm) wire-wound power inductors are said to feature the industry’s best DC bias characteristics for 5 mm square power inductors. Though more compact than conventional 6.0 mm x 6.0 mm versions, these power inductors are asserted to offer comparable performance. The NRS5020’s rated current (DC bias allowed current 2.0 A, inductance 4.7 µH) is 25 percent higher than the company’s previous same-shaped product (value of 1.6 A), while the DC resistance (60 mΩ, inductance 4.7 µH) of this new power inductor is 20 percent lower than the previous product (75 mΩ). The NR5040 features an even higher rated current of 2.3 A, with the widely used inductance of 10 µH. Both the NRS5020 and the NR5040 are designed for use in DC-DC converters in the latest digital equipment. The NRS5020 is suitable for small devices, including netbook PCs, Blu-ray drives and digital SLR cameras. The NR5040 is recommended for flat panel TVs, Blu-ray disc recorders and more. The sample price is $0.30/unit for both types.
