Monitoring System Powered by Friction

The battery-free, on-shaft TE-Power RING by Micropelt GmbH provides a wireless condition monitoring system for parts that wear during operation.  Run by frictional heat, the device can measure temperature and pressure and record vibration signals to allow determinations to be made about the condition of parts for maintenance or replacement.  Each TE-Power RING contains one to four 14 mm² thermogenerator chips used to convert a bearing’s frictional heat into milliwatts of electricity according to the demands of the device.  The results of the TE-Power RING can be broadcast via a wireless network to ensure manufacturers and plan operators have direct access to information concerning the wear of rotating parts.
