Large-size TFT-LCD Panel Shipments are Up
Under the current global economic recession, February 2009 large-size TFT-LCD Panel Shipments was up after 5 month. Displaybank, a market research company focused in Display industry (www.displaybank.com) announced that 2009 February large-size TFT-LCD panel shipments increased 26.3% M/M at 30.1 million pieces. The large-size TFT-LCD panel shipments, which recorded continuous decline since September 2008, were up after 5 month and exceeded November 2008 level. In terms of revenue basis, Feb. 2009 shipments also increased 21.4% M/M at US$ 3.1 Billion. Displaybank explained on the major reasons of the sudden increase after 5 month to be due to panel and set inventory levels being lowered to the lesser-than-traditional level as makers actively adjusted output after Nov. 2008, and set makers are increasing panel orders under the largely declined panel price.
However, the Feb. 09 results in terms of both units and revenue are 14.8% and 53.7% lower than Feb. 08 respectively that market demand cannot be seen as having full recovery, Displaybank added. TV panels are showing rapid recovering trend as the results for Feb. 09 reached to the -1.0% level of Feb. 08. Recent 32-inch and lower sizes TV demand increase in Chinese market as well as sales exceeding expectations in the developed regions including US and Europe are analyzed to be major reasons. Looking at market shares per makers, Samsung Electronics maintains #1 position with 26.2% share in terms of revenue, followed by LG Display at second with 25.8% share. AUO was placed at third position with 14.0% market share. The market share by Korean makers recorded approximately 54% which had largely increased from 43% in Feb. 2008.

Panel makers that had lowered shipments in January 09 with limited operating days, are responding to the increased demands by increasing 10~30% in utilization. March 2009 also continuously shows increasing orders for Monitor and TV panels and Displaybank forecasts that shipments for March 2009 is expected to rise 15% M/M.
