Communications Processor Drives Networking Equipment
Based on 45-nm silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology, Freescale Semiconductor's MPC8569E PowerQUICC III communications processor enables the creation of advanced wireless and wireline networking equipment. The device offloads data path tasks to the QUICC Engine block, which handles termination, interworking, and switching between a range of communication protocols and interface standards, including Gigabit Ethernet, ATM, HDLC, POS, PPP and PWE3. The unit supports interworking, a CPU with 512 KB Level 2 (L2) cache; 2 64-bit or 2 32-bit DDR2/DDR3 memory controllers, SGMII, serial RapidIO, USB 2.0, and PCI Express. The component uses a Power Architecture e500 core that scales up to 1.33 GHz within a sub-10-W power envelope.
