Boundary-Mode PFC Controller Delivers High Efficiency
Performing in AC/DC power supplies, Fairchild Semiconductor’s FAN9612 boundary-conduction mode (BCM) power factor correction (PFC) controller provides >96% power conversion efficiency. The 16-lead SOIC-packaged component interleaves and keeps 2 power stages at 180° out of phase timing under all operating conditions. The device offers automatic phase disable to operate with only 1 channel under light-load conditions; valley switching technology, min. restart timer frequency, and max. switching frequency clamp. The controller includes overcurrent and power-limit protection for each channel, 2-level output overvoltage protection (OVP), input brownout protection and line OVP, programmable closed-loop soft-start, and a input voltage feed-forward function. Applications include digital TVs, desktop and entry-level server computers, front-end telecom systems, and industrial power systems rated from 100 W to 1,000 W.
