Motor Driver Integrates Hall Commutation
Designed to power low-voltage brushless DC motors, Allegro MicroSystems’ A1448 motor driver uses a CMOS semiconductor process to incorporate a Hall sensor, the motor control circuitry, and the full output bridge. A single input control pin allows for direct input PWM for speed control, initiating the active braking function, and engaging micro-power sleep mode. The sleep mode enables the removal of a FET transistor for switching the device on and off. The chip exhibits full device functionality down to 1.8 V VDD, reverse battery protection, output short circuit protection, and a soft-switching algorithm, a max. thickness of 0.4 mm, and an exposed pad. The 6-pin, DFN-packaged component is appropriate for haptic applications and vibration ring tones.
