Temperature Switches Offer User Programmability

Fri, 12/19/2008 - 6:21am

Microchip MCP9509/10Triggering for temperatures ranging from -40°C to 125°C from an operating voltage from 2.7 V to 5.5 V, Microchip Technology's MCP9509 and MCP9510 logic-output temperature switches exhibit a temperature-switch threshold that can be programmed with a single external resistor. The devices monitor temperature based upon user-programmed resistance values, and, when the programmed temperature threshold is reached, the switches alert the system, so the system can react accordingly. User-programmable offerings include 2°C and 10°C (typical) switch hysteresis and output-structure configuration. The MCP9509 demonstrates a static operating current of 30 mA and provides an open-drain output, while the MCP9510 has a static operating current of 50 mA and offer 3 user-selectable output configurations: active-low push pull, active-high push pull, and active-low open-drain output with an internal 100-kOhm pull-up resistor. The switches are suitable for battery-powered applications in the industrial, automotive, medical, appliance, and consumer markets. Pricing is $0.61 each in 10,000 quantities.
