Optocouplers Decrease Standby Power

Tue, 11/18/2008 - 11:21am

Fairchild FOD410Meeting 1-Watt Initiative and ENERGY STAR regulations, Fairchild Semiconductor’s FOD410, FOD4108, FOD4116, and FOD4118 series of snubberless TRIAC driver optocouplers lowers standby power by up to 2 W. The 6-pin DIP-packaged devices present on-state current of 300 mA, zero-voltage crossing, and static dv/dt of 10,000 V/µs, and couple an infrared emitting diode and a hybrid triac formed with 2 inverse parallel SCRs. The FOD4116 and FOD4118 show a trigger sensitivity of 1.3 mA, while the FOD410 and FOD4108 have a trigger sensitivity of 2 mA. The FOD4108 and FOD4118 offer a blocking voltage of 800 V, while the FOD410 and FOD4116 exhibit a blocking voltage of 600 V. The UL-, VDE-, and CSA-approved components suit solid-state relays, industrial controls, lighting controls, static power switches, and AC motor starters. Pricing ranges from $1.29 to $1.86 in 1,000 quantities.
