Functioning as 1- or 2-channel components, Intersil’s ISL333X family of dual protocol transceivers show switching between RS-232 and RS-485/RS-422 protocols. The 6 mm² devices exhibit 15 kV (HBM) ESD protection, data rates of 20 MBps, and flow-through pinouts while operating on 3.3 V supplies. An on-board charge pump generates compliant ±5 V output levels with the Rx outputs handling up to ±25 V and the Tx output handling ±8 V in RS-232 mode. The RS-485 receiver has full failsafe operation, and the RS-485 transmitter supports up to 3 data rates (2 are slew-rate limited). Charge pumps are disabled when both ports on the dual port ICs are in RS-485 mode. The 40-pin QFN-packaged ISL3331 and ISL3333 include a logic supply voltage pin, setting the VOH level of logic outputs and the switching points of logic inputs. The ISL3330 and ISL3332 come in 28-lead SSOP packaging. Pricing for the single-port ISL3330/1 and dual-port ISL3332/3 start at $3.30 and $3.90 each, respectively, in 1,000 quantities.
