Patch Antenna Receives/Transmits Two Different Frequency Bands in a Single Element

Wed, 10/08/2008 - 9:40am

Spectrum Control patchSpectrum Control designed a single element patch antenna that can receive and/or transmit two frequency bands in one 45 mm package, offering a space and cost savings compared to using two, single frequency patch antennas. These patch antennas were developed for GPS (global positioning systems) using either Globalstar: telephone and low-speed data communications or Iridium: worldwide voice and data communications using handheld satellite phones. To perform at the required frequencies, the 45 mm antenna element is mounted on a 63 mm ground plane. The frequencies available are 1,575 MHz (GPS) to 1,615 MHz (Globalstar) and 1,575 MHz (GPS) to 1,621 MHz (Iridium). These dual frequency patch antennas are a flat ceramic, low profile antenna with no interference issues to design around. Prices range from $3.00 to $8.00.
