DSA Offers Serial-Addressable Control Interface
Controlling up to 8 different attenuators using a common 3-wire interface bus, Peregrine Semiconductor's PE43703 7-bit UltraCMOS digital step attenuator (DSA) presents a serial-addressable control interface. The 5 mm × 5 mm × 0.85 mm 32-lead QFN-packaged device covers a 31.75 dB attenuation range in 0.25 dB, 0.50 dB, or 1 dB steps. The 50 O DSA exhibits input IP3 of 57 dBm, attenuation accuracy of ±0.20 + 2% of attenuation setting at 3 GHz, and typical insertion loss of 1.60 dB. The RoHS-compliant component demonstrates no gate lag to settling time nor phase shift, operating frequency range from ~DC to 6 GHz, and ESD tolerance of 2 kV HBM on a 3.30 V or 5 V supply voltage. The unit suits cellular base stations, repeaters, femtocells, power amplifier distortion cancelling loops, and test and measurement applications. The attenuator complements PE42552 RF switch, and includes on-board CMOS logic which facilitates 2.75 V control, and a high-a state at power-up (PUP). Pricing is $8.20 in 100,000 quantities.
