DC/DC Converters with 4:1 Input Deliver 18 A/60 W Regulated 3.3V Output

Tue, 08/05/2008 - 7:49am

DCDC converters with 41Murata Power Solutions introduced its UEI-series of isolated, wide-range DC/DC Converters that provide 50 W to 60 W of power output from a standard 40.6 mm × mm 50.8 mm x 10.16 mm (1.6" × 2" × 0.4") PCB mounted, open frame package; plastic cased versions are available upon request. This regulated series has an operating temperature range of -40ºC to +85ºC and is appropriate for  ‘current hungry’ applications including industrial, wireless and mobile communications, transportation, medical and instrumentation. The offering includes two 4:1 ultra-wide range input voltages: 18 V to 75 VDC Vin combined with outputs of either 3.3 V at 18 A or 5.0 V at 12 A for a total power of 60 W, and 9 V to 36 VDC input, combined with 3.3V at 15 A, 5.0 V at 10 A and 12 V at 4.2 A for 50 W of output power. Capable of stable no-load operation without external components, the UEI Series uses a synchronous rectifier forward topology for high efficiency operation resulting in minimal heat build-up and the ability to be operated using convection cooling and without the need for fans. Full magnetic and optical isolation of up to 2250 VDC provides basic insulation. The series' ripple and noise specifications assure compatibility to circuits using CPUs, ASICs, programmable logic and FPGAs. Self-protection and shutdown features are incorporated in the new design, including: input under-voltage lockout, over-temperature protection, over-current 'hiccup', auto re-start, output overvoltage protection and reverse conduction immunity. Additional features include monotonic start-up, output voltage trim and remote on/off with either positive or negative logic. Typical pricing in OEM quantities starts at $37.50
