IC Targets DDR Cache-Memory Backup
Targeting DDR cache-memory backups, Maxim Integrated Products’ DS2731 power-management IC (PMIC) integrates a single-cell Li+ charger with FETs at a rate up to 1.5 A from a 12-V supply to eliminate over 15 discrete components in existing solutions. The device uses an internal comparator with a power-steering system to switch from system to battery power when the auxiliary supply falls below 2.93 V and switches back when it rises above a 3.03 V threshold. The lead-free with exposed pad, 28-pin TSSOP-packaged IC has a 2-MHz synchronous buck regulator that provides up to 450 mA for DDR refresh. The PCI Express 12-V power rail-compatible (in DDRII and DDR III) device is well suited for RAID server/system memory cards, RAID on motherboard (ROMB), and modular RAID on motherboard (MROMB) systems. Pricing starts at $4.23 for quantities 1,000 and up.
