Class-D Audio Amp Integrates Boost Converter
Targeting portable applications including wireless handsets, personal navigation devices, portable gaming, and wireless speakers, the TPA2014D1 from Texas Instruments is a monolithic, filter-free Class-D audio amplifier with an integrated boost converter that provides up to 1.5 W across an 8-O load. Operating at an overall efficiency of 85%, the device accepts an input from 2.5 to 5.5 V and has a power supply rejection ratio of 91 dB and integrated PLL which synchronizes the Class-D amplifier and boost converter clocks in order to eliminate potential audible beat frequencies. The Class-D audio amplifier is available in a 4-mm² QFN-package at $1.32 each, and in a 2.3-mm² WCSP package at $1.40 each, in 1,000-unit quantities.
