Well-suited for control and calibration applications such as digital volume control and display adjustment applications in portable, consumer, and industrial electronic products, the CAT5128 digital potentiometer IC from Catalyst Semiconductor is a volatile, single-pot device with up/down control to provide a simple digital interface. Housed in an 8-lead SOT-23 package, the device powers on at the midscale setting and provides a 32-position linear taper controlled by two input pins. With resistance values of 10 kO, 50 kO, and 100 kO, the digital potentiometer accepts an input from 2.7V to 5.5V and can be used as a three-terminal resistive divider or as a two-terminal variable resistor.
